Once an unknown, now an emerging superstar. The Weeknd has made a quick rise up the ranks of R&B and become a standout performer in the genre. Most would be overjoyed with the exposure and fame. However, as the Weeknd explains on “Twenty Eight”, he is still on the fence about how this new found popularity is suiting him.
The first single from Trilogy which was not featured on one of his mixtapes, “Twenty Eight” is simply poetic. Although on the surface it may seem like The Weeknd is only pleading to his girl to keep their relationship quite, the entirety of “Twenty Eight” serves as a metaphor on how his career and music will never be the same after he has become a mainstream success.
