Taking it to the islands, especially Jamaica, has gone horribly wrong for some rappers. Many have tried to assimilate the Jamaican sound, even the accent, into their raps, but few non-Jamaicans have done so successfully. These past failures did not discourage Pusha T. He decided to tackle this task head on for his second single off his upcoming album My Name Is My Name.
Leaving the accent to the Jamaican featured on the track, Popcaan, Pusha T seems to have found the balance of island influence and gritty rhymes on “Blocka”. Also alongside Travi$ Scott, Pusha has set an example for future attempts at combining these types of influences.
