Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit of…) – Lou Bega: Song of the Day 4/23

On this gloomy, unseasonably cold day around the northeast, Musical Breakdown decided to search the archives for some upbeat joints which would brighten up this day. For that reason, Lou Bega‘s megahit, “Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit of…” is today’s Song of the Day.

Coming of of Bega’s album A Little Bit of Mambo, ” Mambo No. 5″ was Bega’s only substantial bit in the states. Seemingly taking over the U.S., the single climbed all the way to #3 on the Billboard charts.

Bega sampled a popular 1949 instrumental by Perez Prado, a Cuba native, for the track. The song is so upbeat that it almost should be a crime. Even today, when people hear this coming the speakers, the mood is instantly brighten.

Check out the video for the single below, and brighten up this dreary day.
